"My artistic goals are to use imaginative and creative efforts to intensify the sensation of the real. I most frequently remove extraneous detail, add important elements, rearrange compositions and enhance the values of light and shade."
Steve decided to pursue art as a child after noting the pleasure his father experienced as a "Sunday Painter". Steve mostly paints impressionistic views of Central Coast landscape and seaside subjects.
Most recently, he is doing a series of mostly California birds. "I enjoyed frequently visiting the National Aviary while in Pennsylvania. I love their shapes, colors, patterns and attitudes."
Steve earned a design degree from San Jose State (BSID) along with a minor in art. His love for painting this area started with his marriage to a Salinas resident, Patricia Barden, in 1966. His design career moved them to New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania retiring in 2009. He painted Central Coast scenes for their home during those years as a hobby. He appreciates Pat's unwavering support, who has tolerated paint on clothes and carpets for over 50 years.
