Deborah lived not far from Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta for many years. Her fondest memories of those years were hiking with her naturalist/artist brother, Larry Foss, another of our gallery’s artists. He and their artistic mother inspired Deborah to begin painting.
"While painting I look for the way light hits a subject to inspire me, whether it is back-lit eucalyptus trees, the blue gray fog diffusing light across a bay, or the light streaming through golden heads of wheat at days end. Light and mood move me like nothing else.” Favorite subjects include California’s great trees, the ocean's color and movement, and ever-changing skies. She is also challenged to paint animals, portraits, figures, buildings and beach scenes. She and her sister are planning a painting trip to Spain. She’s hoping Larry can join them. It would be a way to build on those many hikes in the wilderness of northern California and the "jewels" along the way. |
